Natural, socioeconomic, and cultural resource studies were performed and catalogues prepared describing the 4,010 acre Raleigh-Durham Airport property within a 10,000 acre study area. The Master Plan and EAA were prepared for a series of project alternatives, culminating in selection of a specific multiple runway configuration to be constructed over a 20-year build-out. Biological studies were conducted resulting in complete habitat analyses, including vegetation analysis and mapping, fauna collections and descriptions, and protected species evaluations. The work included fisheries and water quality evaluations, cultural resource studies, noise analyses (subcontractor), and air quality analyses (subcontractor). The EA considered thirty general airport configurations and evaluated five development concepts, detailing the potential impact of each. As a result of the EA, a FONSI was filed and accepted, funding arranged ($200 million initial bonds), and new terminal and runway facilities constructed.
